Selling a home is one of the most important financial decisions most of us will ever make. That’s why more sellers than ever before turn to Realtors who are members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and the MIAMI Association of Realtors to help them sell at the right price.

According to NAR, in 2015 for-sale-by-owner home (FSBO) sales dropped to their lowest level on record. Only 8 percent of last year’s home sales were sold without an agent or broker. FSBO sales have dropped 5 percent since 2005, when they accounted for 13 percent of home sales.

Similarly, 87 percent of buyers and 89 percent of sellers use an agent or broker when purchasing or selling a home. These figures have increased almost 20 percent in the last 15 years.

While leaving out the Realtor might seem like a great way to save on commission fees, homeowners who try to sell their homes on their own face more disclosures and legal requirements than ever before and generally sell their homes for less.

Sellers also tend to overestimate the value of their property, underestimate the amount of time required to market and show their property, and must deal with security concerns when strangers view the house.
