MIAMI Realtors will have exhibits promoting South Florida at MIPIM from March 13-16 in Cannes, France as part of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) expanded U.S. pavilion.     Recently, Florida Realtors became aware of several lawsuits filed against real estate brokers in Miami Dade and Broward counties concerning allegations of discriminatory advertising—a violation of fair housing laws. Specifically, brokers are being sued for discriminating against tenants with Section 8 vouchers. These violations, however, pertain to local ordinances, not the Federal Fair Housing Act. Under these local ordinances, landlords and Realtors are precluded from discriminating against tenants with Section 8 vouchers, as this falls under the protected class "source of income."

  • Luxury Miami Home Sales Surge in December

    Luxury Miami home sales posted double-digit gains and existing condominium transactions surged year-over-year in December, according to a new report by the MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (MIAMI) and the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) system. Luxury ($1 million-and-above) existing Miami condo sales jumped 47.6 percent year-over-year, from 42 to 62. Luxury Miami single-family home sales rose 16.7 percent, from 60 to 70. Existing Miami condo sales increased 6.5 percent year-over-year in December, while single-family transactions stayed effectively even (down 0.7 percent).

The Miami Open, which is in its 32nd year at the picturesque Crandon Tennis Center on Key Biscayne, boosts every sector of Miami, including real estate, as it attracts thousands of fans from all over the world. The tournament, which is played over two weeks in late March, has introduced many fans to Miami’s resort lifestyle and awe-inspiring beauty while boosting the local economy. Consider: the Miami Open has an annual economic impact of nearly $390 million. It draws more than 300,000 spectators and is responsible for more than 14,000 hotel rooms. Its impact overseas might be more significant. The tournament is televised internationally, showcasing Miami’s sunny weather and skyline. About 90 domestic hours of TV broadcast the tournament and 190 countries broadcast 8,000 hours of total TV coverage overseas, according to tournament officials.

  • Russia is Again Top International Country Searching Miami Real Estate Miami is Second Most-Searched U.S. Market Globally

    Russia is the most-active country searching Miami real estate for the second consecutive month, according to new data from the MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (MIAMI). Russia registered the most South Florida property searches among all countries on MIAMI’s portal, www.Miamire.com, in December 2016. Colombia and Venezuela finished second and third, respectively. “Russia is part of an increasingly diverse group of countries that are purchasing Miami real estate,” said Christopher Zoller, the 2017 MIAMI chairman of the board. The Miami city of Sunny Isles Beach, for instance, has a large Russian population and is known as “Little Moscow” for its propensity of Russian-owned delis, restaurants, beauty spas, supermarkets and real estate companies. About 7.4 percent of Sunny Isles residents list Russian as their first language, according to the U.S. Census.

Miami/South Florida posted 10 percent commercial real estate investment gains in the first half of 2016. Other top performers were Las Vegas (101%), Denver (up 51%) and Philadelphia (up 28%). Fort Lauderdale also posted gains in sales volume, rising up the ranks of top markets. South Florida has long been a top destination for international investors.
