Specifically, brokers are being sued for discriminating against tenants with Section 8 vouchers. These violations, however, pertain to local ordinances, not the Federal Fair Housing Act. Miami Music Week and Ultra Festival Garner International Attraction

by | Apr 05, 2017

By Chris Umpierre
MIAMI Staff

International home buyers want global cities with business centers, brand-shopping, resort lifestyles, entertainment and more. Miami, named as America’s Third-Most Fun City by Wallet Hub, is known for its nightlife but its art and music festivals are also world class.

Miami Music Week, held in the last week of March, is one of the world’s most recognized electronic music events. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people from across the globe come to Miami to listen and dance to some of the world’s best DJs.

The always sold-out Miami Music Week is a boom to local businesses, hotels, downtown and more. Young Miami Music Week attendees pay for tickets, ranging from $300 to $1,250. In 2016, more than 1,180 artists performed at 260 events hosted at 78 venues.

Ultra Music Festival

The grand finale of Miami Music Week is the Ultra Music Festival, which is known as the world’s premier electronic music festival. The award-winning outdoor event is attended each year by 165,000 fans from 90 countries over three days.

Aside from the powerhouse performances from the best electronic music has to offer, Ultra brings out some of the most relevant and interesting acts in hip-hop, rock, and pop.

Ultra has a $79 million annual economic impact in Miami.

Miami is Home to Major Events

Ultra isn’t Miami’s only major entertainment event.

In the last few months alone, South Florida has hosted the Miami International Boat Show, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, the Ultra Music Festival, the Miami Open and the Palm Beach International Boat Show.

Miami’s Marlins Park will host the Major League Baseball All-Star Game for the first time in June. Miami will be home to the 2020 Super Bowl. Miami was also selected to host the first matchup outside of Spain between Real Madrid and Barcelona. The legendary soccer match known as El Clásico will play at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on July 29.

Miami has also been the site of many Super Bowls, NBA Finals, World Series and more.

Miami is also home to the three-time NBA Champion Miami Heat, two-time World Series champion Miami Marlins and the two-time Super Bowl champion Miami Dolphins.

Other Miami Music Venues

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is one of the greatest music halls in the country.

American Airlines Arena, also in downtown, attracts the world’s biggest artists.

Looking for a smaller venue? Miami has that, too. How about Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana. It’s perfect for live music lovers who enjoy Latin tunes in an authentic Cuban atmosphere.

Miami’s Sports Franchises Extend South Florida’s International Appeal

Major professional sports do more for a city than just instill civic pride. Sports brand a city globally, attract new residents and fuel commercial investment. Take the story of the 2012 and 2013 LeBron James-led Miami Heat NBA championship teams.

The “Big Three” (LeBron, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh) shined the already hot spotlight even brighter on Miami. The Heat’s run to four consecutive NBA Finals led to more TV coverage and more exposure. Miami’s breathtaking skyline and beaches were shown nightly during games. Those same shots aired in many international countries, including China, as the NBA is America’s most global game.

The Heat sold out every game during LeBron’s run, but a more impressive feat happened outside of American Airlines Arena in Downtown Miami. The economic impact of the Miami Heat and the area totaled $1.4 billion a year, according to a Miami Downtown Development Authority study.

Downtown Miami’s resurgence was underway when LeBron signed with Miami in 2010, but his success helped encourage residents, business owners and developers to relocate or do more business in Miami.

Today, Downtown Miami has more than doubled its population to 80,000 in the last decade. Realtor.com named Downtown Miami as the nation’s fourth-fastest growing neighborhood. Downtown cultural institutions like the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Perez Art Museum are attracting new residents and businesses.

Downtown now features more than 392 restaurants and bars and improved public transit. All Aboard Florida, a new Downtown Miami-to-Orlando passenger train, is being built and will include 163,000 square feet of commercial and retail space in downtown. The $1.05 billion Brickell City Centre, which opened recently, and the $1.7 billion Miami Worldcenter have arrived or are on their way.
