JTHS-MIAMI Realtors Collect 240 Pounds of Food for Needy Palm Beach Residents

JUPITER, FLA. — The Jupiter-Tequesta-Hobe Sound Council of the MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (JTHS-MIAMI) collected 240 pounds of non-perishable food for the Palm Beach County Food Bank in April as part of the JTHS-MIAMI Leadership Academy’s “Move for Hunger” Food Drive.

More than 200,000 residents in Palm Beach County struggle with hunger, according to the Palm Beach County Food Bank. The food bank distributes more than 5 million pounds of food each year. “Move for Hunger” is a non-profit organization that works with moving companies to support local food banks. Jupiter’s A-1 Moving & Storage transported the donated food, which is enough for 200 meals.

“Many area residents, including children, go to bed hungry,” said Lynne Rifkin, the 2017 JTHS-MIAMI president and a Realtor with Keller Williams of the Palm Beaches. “We are so proud of our JTHS-MIAMI Leadership Academy students for coordinating this project with our local business partners and to our local Realtor members for promoting and contributing. By helping others and shedding light to this cause, each of us hope to make a difference.”

The food drive is part of JTHS-MIAMI’s continued commitment to assisting the community. In December, JTHS-MIAMI collected more than 500 toys for local families in need. JTHS-MIAMI also filled the wish lists of 38 local senior citizens as part of the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. On May 11, the JTHS-MIAMI Leadership Academy hosted a “Give Back Thursday” event at Guanabanas, with proceeds supporting Place of Hope, a West Palm Beach children’s organization that provides family-style foster care and family outreach services.
