Museum Expansion, New Baseball Complex Illustrates Palm Beach’s Growth

Art enriches communities, attracts the world’s wealthy and fuels commercial development. Palm Beach County understands this and is significantly adding to its cultural institutions. A $60 million expansion at West Palm Beach’s Norton Museum of Art is a shining example.

 

The Norton Museum of Art— which is already internationally known for its distinguished permanent collection featuring American Art, Chinese Art, Contemporary Art, European Art and Photography — kicked off its $60 million renovation project in February. The museum will add 15,000 square feet and include a new 196-seat auditorium, 3,000 square feet of new classrooms, a restaurant with outdoor dining and a grand hall with 44-foot ceilings at the entrance.

 

The expansion is expected to be completed in 2018, but most of the museum will stay open during the renovation. The investment in art coupled with the new Ballpark of the Palm Beaches and an ongoing Palm Beach real estate boom shows Palm Beach County has arrived.

 

Palm Beach — which has hosted the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter since 2003 — is now the spring home to four major league baseball teams. The new Ballpark of the Palm Beaches —a state-of-the-art, $150 million two-team facility — opened in February 2017 and is poised to positively impact everything from local real estate to shopping to tourism.

 

The impact goes beyond baseball. The 6,500-seat stadium also encompasses a 1.8-mile walking trail and new 12-acre city park, completed with a playground, green space, lighted basketball courts and pavilions. The ballpark will serve as a community destination for many years to come.
